How do we do this?

Colours

By choosing a random combination of colours, we challenge automatic thinking. We override the part of us that thinks things need to be a certain way.

The Stroop Effect

The Stroop Test asks you to identify the colour of a word, and not the word itself. For example, the word BLUE written in orange. When you see the word BLUE written in orange, your first instinct is to read the word, not to recognize the colour it’s written in. That’s because your brain’s automatic response to seeing a word is to read it. Recognizing the colour it’s written in causes what’s called cognitive interference - it forces your brain to pause and think about what it’s seeing. This effect shows us the brain’s tendency to favour the easy path.

Incongruent colours = incongruent thinking. ColourMe allows you to pair words and colours that aren’t “supposed” to go together, challenging anyone you meet to interrupt their instinctual patterns and to stop and think about what they’re seeing. Sometimes, doing or seeing something unexpected is a way of questioning the patterns you automatically accept.

ColourMe’s random colour combinations mean there is no “right” combination. Yellow doesn’t have to be yellow, and pink doesn’t have to “go” with something else. Instead of choosing based on how you think things are supposed to look, you’re faced with combinations you might have never created yourself.

By doing Quests, we challenge life’s automatic routines. We override the part of us that lives on autopilot by choosing to interrupt our daily patterns and do something different.

Why not take the concept of the Stroop Effect and apply it to our everyday life? We have all developed routines, habits, and patterns that have become second nature, just like reading.

With every order, you get a Quest. The Quests are designed to cause cognitive interference in your day - forcing you to pause and think about what you’re doing. By completing a Quest, like taking a different way to work, you actively choose a different path for your day - to stop and do something different. When we get used to doing or seeing things a certain way, the less we tend to question it, and the harder that habit is to change. So let’s break those patterns and start questioning the routines that we do without thinking!
